Abstract
A torsional pendulum filled with a ferrofluid that were driven by an oscillating magnetic fields was discussed. It was observed that these torsional pendulums filled with ferrofluids displayed a rich variety of regimes of nonlinear oscillations. This behavior owed to the non-Newtonian properties of ferrofluids in the limit of high pumping frequency. The estimates predicted that the phenomena could be directly observed in experiments with moderate amplitudes of magnetic fields.
