Nonuniform sampling in NMR experiments

There are many NMR experiments where the resonance frequencies and the line-widths are known a priori and only the peak intensities are sought. This includes most of the 2D NMR and spectroscopic imaging experiments where the possible frequencies of the peaks may be obtained from the I D spectrum. A significant improvement in sensitivity can be obtained in such cases by collecting the data in a nonuniform manner instead of constant dwell times. It is further shown how the error in the intensity calculation can be estimated and how this can be used to select the sampling times so that the sensitivity is maximized.
