Abstract
The propagation of a normal zone in a long superconducting film on a dielectric or conducting substrate is studied analytically. The obtained expressions for the normal zone propagation velocity allow to analyze the effect of the thermal resistance between the film and substrate and the width of the substrate. The results are expanded into the cases of the normal zone propagation in a meander and in parallel films.
