Abstract
The growth of Clarias gariepinus larvae and juveniles at three densities during the first 50 days of primary nursing is described. The fish were reared on a combination of dry and live food and showed exceptionally high rates of growth in length and weight. The maximum final average length and weight at the end of the experiment were 87.6 mm TL and 5.3 g, respectively. Growth was found to be positively density dependent. The results illustrate the merit of artificial dry feeds for the rearing of the larvae and juveniles of this species.
