Abstract
Nitrocellulose membranes, mildly pretreated with alkali, lose their ability to adsorb poly U, but retain their potentiality for binding ribosomes. According to this observation, a new method for measuring poly U binding to ribosomes is proposed. Results indicate that both the secondary structure of poly U and the chemical nature of the nitrocellulose filter influence the interaction of the polymer and the membrane.
