Abstract
Emission from the a 3II state to the ground state X1Σ+ of aluminum monofluoride, AIF, has been observed from flames produced by reactions of Al with SF6, NF3, and F2. The observed spectrum confirms the calculated value of Barrow et al. of the triplet-singlet separation. Pressure dependence of the emission has been studied and interpreted in terms of production and quenching processes.
