Abstract

Emission from the a ³II state to the ground state X¹Σ⁺ of aluminum monofluoride, AIF, has been observed from flames produced by reactions of Al with SF₆, NF₃, and F₂. The observed spectrum confirms the calculated value of Barrow et al. of the triplet-singlet separation. Pressure dependence of the emission has been studied and interpreted in terms of production and quenching processes.
