We are grateful to Professor 0. Schnepp, Fro-fessor R. S. Berry and Professor S. A Rice for heIpfu1 discussions. We wish to thank the Chemistry Department, The Technion Israel, for the use of the vacuum spectrograph, and their experimental facilities. A partial support of this work was provided by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.

N2 - The lowest Rydberg transition of ethylene was experimentally observed in a krypton matrix. These results combined with previous data on benzene and acetylene provide conclusive evidence that molecular Rydberg states are amenable to experimental observation in a dense medium.
