Abstract

In regular enriched uranium lattices with a H₂O moderator the multiplication factor increases as the moderation increases. This behaviour of the multiplication factor continues until the neutron spectrum is completely thermal. However lattices based on a fuel composite of ²³⁸UO₂ + PuO₂ show a different behaviour. In this paper the apparent "anomality" in the behaviour of UPu fuel systems is explained.
