Abstract

The aim of this work is to improve the dynamics of a relay's electric contacts to increase the safety of its work and the length of its ″life″ . The conditions for decreasing the number of contact interruptions during switching are investigated. A nonlinear mathematical model is built for this purpose. The statistical linearization method is used to analyze and optimize this system. The rms value of the contact's movement is used as a minimizing criterion. The work is done in both experimental and analytical ways. It is shown that in some cases the number of interruptions of electrical contact reaches 8 - 12 during approximately 8 ms. The way to decrease these numbers and experimental results are shown. The importance of such investigations is illustrated by means of a brief description of the electrical phenomenon which occurs in the contact area.
