Abstract
The average logarithmic energy losses of hot halogen atoms in collisions with methane and methyl halides are substantially different. The difference amounts to a factor of about 4 for Cl and 10 for Br. This means that only the reactivity integrals, or the yields of displacement reactions by hot atoms in highly moderated systems, can serve as indicators of the actual cross sections of such reactions, while the yield in undermoderated systems may be misleading.
