Abstract
The rate of concentration equilibrium settling in the gravity field is studied for a suspension of magnetic particles. In the absence of an external magnetic field the relaxation time taking into account the contributions from both diffusion and dynamic sedimentation modes is evaluated. The dependence of this quantity upon the suspended particle size turns out to be non-monotonic with distinctive maximum lying exactly in the size range ≈ 100 Å which is characteristic to magnetic colloids.
