On the optimal distortion measure for ECG compression

Abstract

An effective distortion measure is required in ECG compression systems. In this paper, a comparison between the popular PRD (percentage RMS difference) and the recently introduced WDD (Weighted Diagnostic Distortion) measures is made. The WDD is based on PQRST complex diagnostic features (such as QT interval, ST elevation, etc.) of the original ECG signal and the reconstructed one.
