Abstract
A criterion of the validity of geometrically linear structural analysis is proposed. It is based on the results of the linear analysis and the knowledge of the appropriate non-linear strain measures. Geometrically non-linear computations are avoided. A plane cable net and a space star-shaped dome are used for the demonstration of the relevance of the criterion.
