Abstract

The deformation transformation of Blount (1959) is used to derive an expression for the electron-phonon coupling of transition metals which can be described by the tight-binding approximation. Contrary to previous derivations, the formulation presented here is not based on the modified tight-binding Bloch functions introduced by Frohlich and Mitra (1968). The relation between the present expression and those obtained before is discussed.
