Abstract

Optogalvanic spectroscopy of copper vapor in a Ne/Cu hollow cathode steady discharge reveals plasma processes such as Penning ionization of copper atoms by metastable neon levels and possible small population inversion on the copper vapor laser transitions at 510. 6 nm and 578. 2 nm. A theoretical model is presented.
