Abstract
A modification of the PAS staining method is presented which aims to increase its specificity for diabetic angiopathy. The method is based on the Casella and Bauer technic of reduction of free aldehydes in the tissue by sodium bisulfite, thus a pale background is obtained and positive blood vessels stand out prominently. A good clinical histological correlation was obtained in a small series with no false negative and only one false positive case.
