Abstract
A significant impediment to studies of growth disorders in man has been the lack of an easily accessible target tissue or cells for studies of growth hormone action. Since demonstration of growth hormone receptors on human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBM) was found controversial by different authors, the aim of this study was to re-estimate the presence of the hGH receptors on human PBM prepared by three different methods as compared to those on IM-9 cultured lymphocytes and rat liver microsomes. On the basis of these studies we conclude that PBM is not a suitable tissue for evaluation of hGH receptors in clinical conditions.
