Abstract
The present study addresses the role of personality pathology in minor and moderate-severe non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) among young adults. Israeli first year university students (n=114) were assessed twice for personality disorder features, depressive personality styles, trait dissociation, depressive symptoms, suicidality, and NSSI. Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder features (OCPD) predicted an onset of minor- NSSI. Dissociation was related to repetitive minor-NSSI and moderate-severe-NSSI onset. These findings highlight the importance of differentiating NSSI’s methods when assessing its risk factors, the role of OCPD features in minor-NSSI and shed light on the dissociation-NSSI link.
