Abstract

This chapter covers research on the vast landscape of drug molecules used in integrative medicine, providing a comprehensive overview of their sources and diverse pharmacological properties. The book chapter explores the multifaceted aspects of drug discovery and development, highlighting the importance of understanding the origins and characteristics of various drug molecules in integrative healthcare practices. Through a detailed analysis of natural, synthetic, and biotechnologically derived drug compounds, the study aims to bridge the gap between traditional and modern pharmacology. It emphasizes the significance of incorporating diverse drug sources to enhance therapeutic outcomes and optimize patient care in integrative medicine settings. Here, we also focused on the recent advancements in drug discovery based on natural products. Key focus includes antibiotic, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory medicines’ natural product–inspired drug design and biodiversity exploration. These developments showcase the ongoing innovation and potential of natural compounds in creating novel and effective drugs.
