    Abstract

The ultimate energy source for all organisms is the sun. Its nuclear mass is converted into energy according to the equation E = mc 2 formulated by Einstein. This energy is partially radiated into space, some of it in the form of light which reaches the earth’s surface where it allows the photosynthetic assimilation of CO 2 by plants, algae, and some bacteria.
