Abstract

Pierre-François Guillaume Boullay (1777-1869), a French pharmacist, carried on important work on the preparation of ethyl ether and alkyl derivatives, the extraction of active vegetable principles during which he discovered pirotoxin and violin, the synthesis of margaramide, and perfected the process of percolation to extract active substances and tinctures of the same.
