Abstract
The excavations at the Nahal Hemar Cave (Bar-Yosef and Alon 1988) reve
of the most conspicuous Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB) assemblages ever
the Levant. The remarkable preservation of wooden artifacts, fragments o
linen twined pieces etc., is an extremely rare phenomenon in Levantine pr
sites. This assemblage is not homogeneous in nature and contains items w
be interpreted as belonging to variegated functions amongst which ritual
seem to constitute a major role (Bar-Yosef and Alon 1988: 27-8). The plaster
assemblage, including beads, plastered basketry and fragments of a plaster statue
(ibid:(ibid:(ibid:{ibid: 19-21; Kingery 1988), seem to belong to this category
