Abstract

Positron lifetime data for solutions of the ionic surfactants CTAB, CTACL and NaLS in water and in the dipolar aprotic solvents are presented. Additionally some complementary data on inverted micelles of DAP and DAB and some micellar model substances are provided. Whereas in general all surfactants caused a monotonous decrease in the Ps yield (I2) as a function of concentration when in aqueous solution, their non-aqueous solutions revealed only a very weak effect. Analogous behaviour is also shown by the micelle model substances. The results can be explained on the basis of differential reactivities of the proposed positronium precursors towards functional groups and/or micelles.
