Practical method to calibrate large arrays of detectors, the example of the HILI

Abstract

Calibration of large arrays of detectors presents a non trivial problem, especially if non linear responses have to be dealt with, and a large variety of particle species is present. Based on a recent successful description of the light induced in scintillators by diferent ions, we propose an application to the practical case of the calibration of the HILI hodoscope array (192 phoswich detectors) for any particle. We are illustrating the method using alpha particles.
