Abstract
Elastic scattering of monochromatic photons (ΔE∼25 eV) at 8999, 10 055, and 11 388 keV was used to probe the microstructure of known bumps in the low-energy tail of the giant dipole resonance in 208Pb. The scattered radiation is found to be predominantly dipole. The results set an upper limit to the widths of the 10.06 and 11.3 MeV bumps.
