Abstract

Israel Irvin Glass was born in Poland in 1918. He immigrated together with his parents to Canada at the age of 12. He received his professional education at the University of Toronto. In 1947 he was awarded the B. Sc degree and a year later the M.Sc. degree, both in Aeronautical Engineering. In 1950 he obtained his Ph.D. from The Institute for Aerospace Studies, University of Toronto. He worked in this Institute continuously until his retirement in 1983, and then he continued in the capacity of Professor Emeritus. Professor Glass established and headed the gasdynamics and shock-wave phenomena group in the Institute. Together with his graduate students and research associates he did pioneering research and made significant contributions to many aspects of gasdynamics.
