Quantum Hall effect in two-dimensional vortex liquids

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Vortex dynamics in a two-dimensional superconducting film is considered in the adiabatic limit when the dynamics is dominated by the Magnus force. A vortex liquid phase is studied in presence of vortex-vortex interactions and a smooth random potential and is shown to exhibit a fractional quantum Hall effect. This phenomenon can account for observed steps in the magnetization curves of YBa2Cu3O7-δ.
