Abstract

Political sociologist Sammy Smooha's "ethnic democracy" has received much attention and gained a central role among social scientists in Israel. The model of "ethnic democracy" provides a structural account of Jewish-Arab relations in Israel and discusses the nature of democratic states dominated by an ethnic majority. Many critics believe the model is not implemented fully because Israel violates many fundamental principles such as equal and inclusive citizenship, minority rights and consent, and others. .
