Radiation effects in organic solutions of cholesteryl nonanoate and cholesteryl decanoate

Abstract

The products of gamma radiolysis of solutions of cholesteryl nonanoate and cholesteryl decanoate cause a decrease in the color transition temperatures which is is proportional to the absorbed dose. The rate of the lowering of the colour transition temperature depends strongly on the solvent and is inversely proportional to the concentration of the cholesteric esters. The hydrogen abstracted to form CHCl//3 is mostly the allylic hydrogen from the cholesterol skeleton.
