Abstract
A case of a pregnant patient treated by radiotherapy is presented. To obtain an estimate of the radiation to the fetus, doses distal to a treated volume were measured in a phantom and curves of dose as a function of distance from the entrance field were prepared. During the 5th and 6th months of pregnancy the patient received cobalt teletherapy to the supraclavicular and internal mammary regions; 4,000 rad to each field for a total of 31 days. According to the curves obtained, the maximal dose to the fetus was about l3 rad. The risk to the fetus was considered acceptable in this case. These curves may be used to estimate remote doses in similar cases.
