Abstract
The classical theory of Raman scattering from adsorbed molecules on solid surfaces is outlined, and modifications aimed at discussing electrochemical systems are presented. We propose a mechanism for intensity enhancement and compute the polarization and the angular distribution of the scattered radiation. It is shown that for some limiting cases the position of the molecule with respect to the surface may be inferred from experiments.
