Abstract
We report the Raman scattering from novel silver thin films that are located between two immiscible liquids, water and an organic medium. These films have a high metallic reflectivity combined with macroscopic fluidity (silver metal liquidlike films). For comparison, dark, granular silver interfacial films were also studied. The spectra show signals from moieties in the films. The main findings consistently indicate the presence of silver compounds with anisic acid and with surfactants that are used in the synthesis of the films. We associate these compounds with the anions adsorbed on a silver colloidal particle. These Raman measurements provide the only direct evidence of the composition of the films in their natural state.
