Reaction of primary-tertiary diacetylenic ζ-glycols with hydrogen sulfide

Abstract

The addition of hydrogen sulfide to primary-tertiary diacetylenic ζ-glycols in the presence of sodium ethylate is accompanied by dehydration involving the tertiary hydroxyl group and leads to the formation of 2 -(2′-hydroxyethyl)-5-alkenylthiophenes.
