Reading Irish Histories: Texts, Contexts and Memory in Modern Ireland: [Review]

Research output: Contribution to journalBook/Arts/Article review

Abstract

From the point of view of Irish cultural history, the topic of 'reading histories', alongside
the impact of such reading on social memory and mentality is pertinent. This volume follows in the footsteps of an earlier, equally important, collection also edited by Lawrence
McBride, which focussed on visual imagery - Images, Icons and the Irish Nationalist Imagination, 1870-1925 (1999), allowing some of the contributors of that book to expand on their
research and redirect their attention towards the written word, while it also brings aboard
other, mostly North American (bar one exception), academics with an interest in textual cultural productions.
