Abstract

In this study the unsteady flow is made pseudo-steady by attaching the frame of reference to the reflection point, where the foot of the Mach stem touches the wedge, rather than the triple point, which was traditionally chosen as the origin for the frame of reference. In order to relate these two different pseudo-steady single-Mach reflections, some analytical and graphical relations are developed. In developing these relations, an old error concerning the location of the state behind the foot of the Mach stem on the shock polar plane, which was and still is made by many distinguished investigators, is pointed out, explained and corrected. In addition a new experimental method for measuring the triple point trajectory angle is suggested.
