Red cell survival in heat-exposed hamsters

Abstract

1. 1. Chronic heat exposure of hamsters has been found to affect the metabolism, osmotic fragility and membrane composition of the red cells. 2. 2. Red cell survival was studied using 51Cr labelling. 3. 3. Half-life and mean cell life times were found to be reduced. It is suggested that heat exposure causes a mild, well-compensated, haemolytic process.
