Abstract

Reduction of left ventricular (LV) mass in hypertensive patients treated with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors is related to reduction in mean arterial pressure and to blockade of renin-angiotensin. The decrease in LV hypertrophy is not associated with deterioration in LV systolic function; conversely, diastolic function improves significantly, relative to the degree of reduction in LV mass.
