Abstract

The reflection of a planar shock wave over a water wedge has been investigated experimentally in a specially designed shock tube capable of being tilted from a horizontal position to about 70 degree . The four well known types of reflection, i. e. , regular, reflection (RR), single-Mach reflection (SMR), complex-Mach reflection (CMR) and double-Mach reflection (DMR) have all been observed. In addition, the transition wedge angle from regular to Mach reflection was investigated. The study is aimed at getting a better understanding of reflection phenomena of blast waves over liquid surfaces such as seas and oceans.
