Abstract

A relation is developed between the scattering phaseshifts and the eigenvalues of the Schrodinger equation with a potential confined to a box. This relation can give the phaseshifts for scattering problems, if the eigenvalues for the appropriate box problems are known. Thus, resonances existing in the continuum can be detected.
