Abstract
A comparison was carried out on the catalytic activity of a series of sulfidized industrial aluminum-nickel-molybdenum (ANM) catalysts and model systems based on nickel molybdate and the product of its sulfidization, Ni//3S//2-MoS//2, in the hydrogenation of o-xylene and the hydrodesulfurization of thiophene. The hydrogenation activity (HA) of the industrial ANM catalysts does not correlate with the hydrodesulfurizing activity (HDSA). The HA/HDSA ratio for the model systems for HDSA values on a level with the best industrial catalyst is 5-46 times greater than that for the industrial ANM catalysts.
