Abstract
An analysis is made of the conditions of dissociation of non-metallic inclusions of titanium nitride in molten Kh18N10T steel during vacuum remelting. The composition of the equilibrium gas phase at 1600 degree C and left bracket Ti,% right bracket equals 0. 5 with the dissociation of titanium nitride is established. During vacuum remelting of stainless steel, the dissociation of the nitrides will occur in accordance with the reaction TiN equals left bracket Ti right bracket plus one-half N//2. There will be no marked evaporation of titanium from the surface of the molten metal while nitrogen should be removed from the metal. A qualitative experimental check of the calculated data is made.
