Renormalization group equation and non-perturbative effects in string-field theory

Abstract

We derive the renormalization group equation for string field theory and show that it implies the Batalin-Vilkovisky equation and the factorization equations of first quantized string theory. We solve the renormalization group equation to obtain a non-perturbative expression for the vacuum energy. We also discuss mass shifts.
