Abstract

To the Editor: We have read with great interest the recent report of Rapoport et al. in the December 14, 1978, issue. The authors consistently observed a low concentration of cholesterol in high-density lipoproteins of dialyzed uremic patients, irrespective of whether or not serum triglyceride levels were raised. One point not raised by Rapoport et al. is the potential role of the dialysis procedure in producing changes in high-density lipoprotein concentration and composition. It would be of interest to know whether similar abnormalities can be demonstrated in nondialyzed uremic patients. We have recently observed that in patients dialyzed for two.
