Alpine grasslands provide valuable functions and services, but close to 50% are degraded worldwide. Some alpine grassland has been degraded an extreme status and some to the desert, which are very difficult to restore. This chapter describes (1) the history of restoring degraded alpine grasslands and the main current problems; (2) main approaches and effects of restoration of degraded grassland; and (3) sustainable restoration technology, focusing on active ecological restoration.
