Abstract
Ayurveda has emphasized the importance of Shodhana procedure for various metals, minerals and poisonous herbs before preparation of any compound formulation. This process is aimed at removal of blemishes and bring about physical, chemical and biological changes in the subjected drug. Kupeelu (Nux-vomica) is widely used in a large number of herbo-mineral formulations after subjecting to shodhana. Previous works pertaining to this process have shown its efficacy in removing the toxic principles. Revalidation of the process has been carried out by shodhana in different media. On the basis of analytical parameters it was found that total alkaloid contents of seeds also decreased after shodhana process. It has been infered that godugdha (cow's milk) can be considered as best media for kupeelu shodhana as optimum extraction is ensured.
