N2 - Drawing from both clinical experience and the risk/resilience research, we posit that many psychosocial factors actually embed elements of both. Underlying this risky-resilience and resilient-risk dialectics are two methodological conditions-statistical suppression and complex moderation. Focusing on a host of psychosocial factors (e.g., dependency, self-concept, social support, positive life events, coping strategies), we illustrate the dialectics and theorize that it is related to individuals' intentionality, particularly their need to project one's self into the future and to use available resources for the purpose of realizing possible selves.
