Rotational mobility of a spin label in cotton fibres exposed to ultraviolet radiation

Abstract

The kinetics of the photo-oxidative destruction of cotton fibres has been studied by the spin-label method. It was established that the process of photodestruction is accompanied by increase in the microrigidity of the fibre as a result of formation of additional hydrogen bonds. It is shown that ultraviolet iradiation reduces the effective activation energy of rotation of the label.
