Abstract

The effect of the surface boundary on the magnetoelastic properties of ErFeO//3 at the spin reorientation region, was studied by SAW. The measurements were carried out at the orthorhombic a-c surface of the crystal. It was found that the transition region of the spin reorientation measured by the SAW, is slightly narrower than that measured by acoustic bulk waves. Theoretical analysis shows that the narrowing of the spin reorientation region is caused by a change of the bulk anisotropy near the surface.
