Abstract
The transduction of the GnRH signal in teleost fish involves G-proteins, phospholipase C, diacylglycerol, inositol trisphoshate, Ca2+ influx and mobilization from intracellular sources, calmodulin, protein kinase C, phospholipase A2, arachidonic acid and its cycloxygenase metabolites. In certain fish cyclic AMP and PKA are also involved in the transduction. Dopamine exerts its inhibitory effect on Ca2+ influx, at a site proximal to Ca2+ mobilization, at sites distal to PKC and PKA and at a site proximal to arachidonic acid. GnRH, through PKC and PKA, increases the steady-state level of GtH IIβ mRNA in tilapia. One of the modes of cAMP action is the stabilization of this mRNA.
