Abstract

The security problem in data base systems is analyzed. A multilevel structured model is proposed which allows the 'spreading' of protection specifications and mechanisms throughout the various levels of the data base. The model is shown to be flexible and general and subsumes several data base security models. These data base models are analyzed from the security point of view and it is shown that all of these models require excessive centralization of protection specifications, mechanisms and control. Such centralization is not required in the proposed model which makes it more adaptable to different applications.
